Rewiring your home can seem like a massive headache for homeowners however, our experienced team are on hand to make this somewhat major project as simple and straightforward as possible for you.

It is recommended that your property is rewired every 25-30 years to ensure the cabling within your home is up to the latest electrical safety standards. Sub-standard or faulty wiring can be extremely dangerous to your loved ones and is a major fire hazard. Dated cabling that was once thought of as safe, has now shown to be hazardous. It is therefore critical that you have your electrics checked every 10 years by a qualified electrician (5 years for rented properties). If you are in the process of buying a house which is over 25 years old, we would also recommend having the wiring inspected before you purchase. These details are not usually outlined within a home report and without knowing, could cause further complications and costs later down the line.

What’s involved?

The full electrical system of your home is concealed behind walls, under floorboards and in the attic space. As such, it can often go unnoticed until it is too late and there is a problem with it. All this hidden cabling provides power from your electrical consumer unit to the sockets, lights and other electrical outlets e.g. cooker, shower (if electric), boiler. Rewiring a property basically does exactly what it says on the tin! We re-route all the new cabling from your consumer unit to replace the old existing ones. The cables are organised into separate circuits (sockets, lighting etc.) which are terminated at every outlet and are clearly marked up at your new 18th edition RCD protected consumer unit. The routing of these cables can involve lifting carpets, floorboards and chasing walls (if made of brick) therefore it is vital a full survey of the property is conducted by one of our team in advance and you fully understand the extent of the job in hand. On completion, a full electrical installation certificate (EIC) will be provided which should be maintained for your records.
